Rare Mary Batchelder Sampler Repro CrossStitch Embroidery Kit

Manufacturer :  Paragon

Availability : In-Stock

We are so pleased and proud to present this cross stitch and embroidery sampler for the Colonial enthusiast! Simply called "Cooper-Hewitt", this piece is adapted from the 1773 sampler of 16 year old Mary Batchelder, which is now housed in their museum collection.
Just like the original, this reproduction sampler features a stylized floral border on three sides. In the upper third are three sets of alphabets and a set of numerals, separated by geometric and floral borders. In the center, three stylized flowers from the original was retained. The Original Verse Read:
"Mary Batchelder Was Born June The 13th 1757 Wrought this Sampler 1773
While God does Spare for Death Prepare"
This verse part of the original sampler has been removed so that you, as the stitchery artist, can personalize for yourself.
Similar to the Chase Williamsburg sampler, the Cooper Hewitt reproduction is worked in basic embroidery stitches along the bottom third, which showcases a centralized large two-handled vase of flowers with a bird and an insect on each side and flowers scattered in the foreground.
