Elsa Williams tells an interesting story about this exquisite design for the crewel embroidery enthusiast.
"Some time ago, I saw an early 15th century china platter in Museu das Cruzes in Madeira. The museum was the house of Christopher Columbus and there's a tradition that says it was built by Zarco ,the man that discovered Madeira. I adapted this design from the china platter, working entirely in shades of blue. If you're skilled in long and short stitches, or want to learn them, the Gainsborough will give you special pleasure." Part of her original NeedleArt collection, this splendid estate piece arrived in overly shopworn packaging which has been replaced to keep contents clean and ready to work. Absolutely beautiful!
