Maria, the youngest daughter of James and Elizabeth Monroe, embroidered an exquisite sampler in 1814 at age 11. The sampler was discovered and aquired by Ash Lawn- Highland. The design for this counted cross stitch kit is an adaption of Maria's original sampler. This sampler design depicts a quaint saltbox building from the colonial era, and parallels the innocence of youth and schooldays. Stitched in muted colonial shades of gold, green and blue, this beautiful piece for the counted cross stitch enthusiast is sure to become an instant heirloom.
