One of the earliest reviews on record for L. Frank Baum’s classic American fairy tale (a reprint from the original New York Times ) lauds the book for having "a bright and joyous atmosphere" and "not dwell[ing] upon killing and deeds of violence" and claims that "it will indeed be strange if there be a normal child who will not enjoy the story." An instant success, this phenomenal book received numerous similar positive reviews in the publications of that era.

Since its publication in September 1900, L. Frank Baum’s "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has become America’s greatest and best-loved homegrown fairytales. The first completely American fantasy for children, it is to this date one of the most-read children’s books. A long series of sequels and various forms of the story have been manifested in the years since it’s first publication, including the recently re-released Movie version of the story with classic Hollywood star Judy Garland.

Part of the Oz appeal is a blending of story elements including traditional magic, such as witches and pieces of early twentieth-century American realism, such as a "Kansas cyclone" and a "man made of tin", and a talking "scarecrow" . Although it shows most particularly many American attributes, right down to the wizard from Omaha, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" has universal appeal~ worldwide translations have been made and enacted in it’s numerous forms~ the Library of Congress even supplemented it’s own collections with Oz costumes and other memorabilia borrowed from other museums, libraries, and private collectors to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the book.

We are so pleased and proud to present an exceptional find for our Wizard of Oz collectors. This exemplary rendition for the needle artist features crewel embroidery interpretations of the Five Main Characters of the story, Dorothy, Toto, the Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion , as they "follow the Yellow Brick Road" on their way to the Emerald City. For Serious collectors, this masterpiece is a way to share in the re-creation of the magical moments that Dorothy has during her adventures.
