“Vendedora de Alcatraces” means “The Calla Lilly Vendor,” and Diego Rivera’s 1938 masterpiece by that name perfectly captures both the lovely blooms and the vendor, setting out the flowers for sale. From the deep golden centers of the Calla Lilies to the varied shades of cream and white, the flowers in this counted cross stitch picture are a perfect example of Rivera’s style of Realism. The curving green stems appear to be freshly cut as the Vendor calmly arranges her display.
