 The Bird of Paradise flower, also called a Crane flower, symbolizes joy and paradise, and is known for its resemblance to a bright tropical bird. In this design for Longstich needlepoint by Roger W. Reinardy, the flowers are a combination of bright yellow, stark white, and deep purple-blue.   The large leaves are in varied shades of green, and the plant itself peeks out of a vase in rich shades of rose and black.  The geometric background is finished in complementary tones of green, ivory and rose. You'll work longstitches for the fan vase and flower, and traditional gros point needlepoint stitches for the background. Just beautiful!
