We're so pleased and proud to present this long out of production sampler reproduction for the New England sampler collector. The original piece was worked in 1830 by Miss Mary Towne of Charlton, Massachusetts.( see original in illustration below) . Mary was 15 years old at the time she did this sampler. She was the daughter of Salem Towne, Jr., whose father's house is now a main exhibit building at Old Sturbridge Village. Mary and her family were actually living in the house that is now on exhibit.
This beautifully adapted piece by Elsa Williams is worked on cream aida fabric; you'll work a combination of basic embroidery stitches on the outer border which has been pre-printed for accuracy, and counted cross stitch for the center sampler section. A personalization space has been provided after the sentiment, where you'll add your signature, instead of Mary's. The sentiment reads: "Friends must part & friendship sigh, Although it knows not how to die. Wrought by____"
Size: 16" x 18"
Kit contains: Screened Floral Border and motif on cream-colored Aida Cloth, chart for alphabet, borders and bird motifs, cotton embroidery floss, needles, complete directions and stitch instructions. Proudly made in the USA
Artist: Based on 1830 sampler by Mary Towne
