The design of this beautiful Williamsburg floral crewel embroidery pillow kit has been interpreted from embroidered motifs on a cap back which was part of the collection in the Department of Textiles in Colonial Williamsburg. Worked in fine silk thread on a silk 'ground', the original cap embroidery piece dates from the early 18th century and is European in it's origin. It's unknown how the needlework was originally used; it was fashioned into a lady's cap back at some later date.

You'll work this beautiful reproduction by the Elsa Williams Williamsburg collection in Paternayan 100% wool crewel yarns and cotton floss on cream linen. What a lovely way to bring a bit of 18th century tradition to your home! Myriad minor spring blooms including johnny jump ups, carnations, irises and more are each showcased in their little spot of a trellis style design. Simply charming!
