This largest swan of the world was nearly extinct but in recent years their numbers have successfully rebounded. They begin to nest and breed before the ice has thawed from remote lakes throught Alaska and Canada. The name "Trumpeter" comes form its distinctive trumpet-like voice. Part of a series of Northwest and Alaskan scenes and wildlife designs by Jacqueline Sarach for her Sandhill designs.
